Handy Person Service

HANDY PERSON SERVICE

In partnership with North Somerset Council since October 2018 AMS Electrical is the council's chosen provider for its Handy Person Service.

The Criteria

The service is designed to enable access to small essential works for disabled persons of any age or those over the age of 60 living within North Somerset.

As a qualifying customer you can

Use the service for a cumulative total of 6 hours a rolling year, per qualifying person in the household, with a maximum of 3 hours in any one visit. Hours cannot be carried over.

How much will you charge me?

North Somerset Council offers a subsidised rate. The current hourly rate that the customer pays is £17.00 per hour for labour, plus the cost of any materials we supply.

We charge attendance up to an hour, so whether we are with you for 5 minutes or 59 minutes the cost is the same. We suggest that if you have more than 1 job or you are trying to best utilise your time, make a list, in priority order and our handy person will work through as much as they can in the time that you have booked.

If you use up all your substidised hours we can still help you! We are just unable to offer the discount. Speak to us about our private handy person rates.

Booking a visit

You can call or email to book a visit. The first time we will set up a customer record which is held on our system. We will ask you for your name, address, telephone number. We then need to qualify you for the service, to do that we will record your date of birth and your disability status (yes or no)

We will offer you the first available appointment unless you have a preferred visit day.

Please note: we will send you the best suited colleague for the job you request, this can sometimes mean appointment wait times differ due to demand. If you have several jobs you may need more than one visit, for example if you have a small plumbing job and a small electrical job, these may need to be carried out by different colleagues.

We work to time windows for our visits for example: a morning time slot may be to arrive at some point between 9am &12noon.

How do I pay?

We will send you an invoice after your visit is completed. Our preferred payment method is bank transfer, please remember to use your invoice number as the reference! If you are unable to do this you can telephone and pay with your debit or credit card. We do not accept cheques or cash payments.
